3D Models Using Photogrammetry

29/03/2018
Applus+ Australia has recently been investigating the use of photogrammetry to create 3D models of assets. The concept involves taking a series of photographs of an object and processing them together to create a 3D model. The 3D model can then be saved in an interactive 3D PDF that can be viewed on any computer with a PDF viewer installed. Alternatively the model can be imported into a Virtual Reality environment to give the user an immersive experience of the model.
    Benefits and Uses:
    • Interactive 3D PDF with the ability to add comments, perform measurements on model.
    • Walk-though VR environment with the ability to look at an asset at its original scale.
    • Display NDT results on a 3D model and cycle through different sets of inspection (eg. Over various years).
