Pipelines operate safely with the presence of corrosion defects and cracks. After detection, operators must determine which defects are safe and which need repair. Fundamental, regulatory accepted methods for determining the remaining strength of pipe with corrosion and cracking are presented. This course presents the fundamental aspects of the assessment equations for pipeline defects and their use. The defect assessment spreadsheet KAPA (Kiefner & Associates Pipe Assessment) for the assessment of corrosion and cracks will be distributed and demonstrated.
Course Cost: $495
Duration: 4 hours (2 sessions)

Course Topics Include:
• Development of analysis methods for metal loss including the Folias factor
• Defect interaction considerations
• B31G, Modified B31G and the effective area method
• Development of the log-secant analysis method for cracks
• Emerging assessment equations
• KAPA for assessing of corrosion demonstration and workshop exercises
For over 25 years, Applus+ Engineering staff have presented fundamental and accepted strategies for maintaining safe pipelines. We are pleased to announce the development of a structured series of online courses to provide training on fundamental pipeline integrity concepts and methods. The material in these courses provide the fundamental concepts of the effects of defects and imperfections on pipelines as well as methods for preventing, assessing, and mitigating them. The intended audience are pipeline company engineers e new or have only a few years of experience in integrity management. An introduction to pipeline defects, cathodic protection, defect assessment, in-line inspection, pipeline repair and hydrostatic testing are some of the topics presented in this workshop. More in-depth programs on these topics will available in future workshops. Sessions can be taken individually; however, registering for all sessions provides a price reduction and the benefit of having comprehensive pipeline integrity training.
