Manufacturing Defects in Pipe

27/10/2021

Understanding the pipe manufacturing process and the potential defects that may form is crucial to the integrity management process. Defects present from manufacture may pass all quality inspections and pressure tests, only to grow to failure during service. The most common defects arise from the seam welding process, but other defects in the pipe body may also occur and be detected during routine inspections. Kiefner Technical Training designed this course for staff and technicians to understand the manufacturing processes and the types of imperfections and defects that may form, as well as their potential impact on pipeline integrity.

For over 25 years, Applus+ Engineering staff have presented fundamental and accepted strategies for maintaining safe pipelines. We are pleased to announce the development of a structured series of online courses to provide training on fundamental pipeline integrity concepts and methods. The material in these courses provide the fundamental concepts of the effects of defects and imperfections on pipelines as well as methods for preventing, assessing, and mitigating them. The intended audience are pipeline company engineers e new or have only a few years of experience in integrity management. An introduction to pipeline defects, cathodic protection, defect assessment, in-line inspection, pipeline repair and hydrostatic testing are some of the topics presented in this workshop. More in-depth programs on these topics will available in future workshops. Sessions can be taken individually; however, registering for all sessions provides a price reduction and the benefit of having comprehensive pipeline integrity training.
