Difficult-to-inspect Pipelines: A Use Case of Applus+ DTI Trekscan in El Salvador

The primary objective of the project is to conduct a comprehensive pipeline inspection using advanced ultrasonic techniques. With the support of our DTI Trekscan UT in-line inspection tool, the goal is to accurately detect both internal and external damages, such as corrosion, pitting, and deformations in the pipeline structure.

This methodology ensures a thorough evaluation of mechanical integrity, enabling the client to make informed decisions and implement effective preventive and corrective maintenance plans. Moreover, early detection of these issues is crucial in preventing failures that could lead to hydrocarbon leaks, significant risks that could result in serious environmental damage.

The project focuses on the execution of key activities:

• Internal cleaning runs: Ensure the removal of impurities and debris that could compromise the accuracy of the inspection.
• Ultrasonic internal inspection: Allows for the precise identification of structural anomalies or damage.
• Georeferenced mapping: Guarantees the exact location of each pipeline segment, aiding in the planning of corrective actions.

The data collected will provide a detailed overview of the asset's mechanical condition, enabling the implementation of both preventive and corrective measures, as well as the development of a tailored maintenance plan. Progress will be shared through the delivery of a preliminary field report, highlighting the most critical findings for immediate action, followed by a comprehensive final report that integrates a full analysis of the collected data.
